The House of Rubik

The Rubiks cube continues to be quite popular in our home. In fact, I am not sure there goes a day when I am not tripping over or picking up at least one cube. We have collected numerous cubes and not one yet remains unsolved. From the 2x2, the 3x3, the 4x4, 5x5, the megaminx, and even the rubiks 360 "cube." Oh and we can't forget the commemorative Anaheim Angels cube! We even made a Rubiks cube cake for the Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet! Carson has jumped on board, following his brother's example, and can solve the 2x2 in about 30 seconds. Neither Garrett nor I has yet to solve any of them, though.

Braden continues to practice and get faster and faster. He has competed in 2 competitions in San Diego and is set to go to Boston in August with Garrett for the National Competition held at MIT. His fastest time to date is 24 seconds for the 3x3, 5 seconds for the 2x2, and 6:18 for the megaminx (12 sides). Check out his official stats and world ranking here. He is quite excited to be on the "board."

He "performed" his speed solve at school for the variety show in May. He had the principal scramble his cube for him and then solved it to some funky music. The crowd loved it and erupted when he finished in about 30 seconds! Who knew the Rubiks Cube would still be cool in 2010!
